Congratulations to Nuno Barbosa from Portugal, who's entry 'Life's a Soundcheck has won the inagural Rode Mic Rockumentary film competition.
The standard of entries was very high and as one of the judges I found it very difficult to narrow field down fom 20 shortlisted finalists to the final 10.
Nuno has won an all expenses paid trip to LA where he will be filming a documentary with Navicula, the band who won the Rode Rocks International band competition. And on top of that he'll recieve mentoring from Phil Bloom and Jason Wingrove.
Nuno's film really stood out from the very first time I viewed it. For me it had the perfect balance of visual narrative with clever pace and brilliant sound design. But most of all it was just really fun and entertaining to watch.

The 2nd prize which is a whole heap of Rode Gear and bags from Think Tank Photo went to Jozef Pollak. I have to confess I personally didn't love this film but it was very clever and the public spoke and voted - so well done Jozef.

And in third place a very polished entry and very well executed short by 444-Films - when I watched this it really looked like it had been made by an agency and had a very commercial look to it.

I have to mention one of my personal favorites by Matias Scartascini from Argentina. This film actually came very close to a prize and was only just pipped to the post. I though the story was brilliant and very cleverly executed. I scred this very highly during teh shortlisting process.WAKE UP by Mati Scartascini from Matux on Vimeo.
The standard of entries to the competition was incredible and full credit to Rode Microphones for creating this contest and investing such great resources and prizes to it. I'd like to thank Scott Emerton at Rode for inviting me to be part of the Judging Panel. Let's hope that this becomes and annual event.
