Back at NAB 2010 Birger Engineering announced the Birger adaptor for the Sony FS100....
I got very excited and even got a prototype to try out.
And then we waited....and we waited.... and then ......nothing.
Since then the Hong Kong made Metabones adaptor has been doing a great job at interfacing Canon lenses. However no one has managed to crack Autofocus. (and if you disconnect your IS lens from the metabones it does not re-engage the IS and could leave your lens vunerable as the IS will just bang around inside the lens housing.
While at IBC Guy Thatcher from Hireacamera.com and I bumped into Erik and asked him what has been going on. He also showed us an autofocus system he's developing.
It turns out Birger Engineering are very busy developing Industrial Video systems and lucky for Erik , business has been booming.
The Adaptor was his first venture into Broadcast and buy his own admission they were faced with some major challenges and so held off releasing something that was not ready or right.
Fair play I say for coming clean- What he said was he is actively developing an autofocus and Iros control solution for The Sony F3 and E Mount camcorders.
He said it'll be available when it's ready ....so watch this space.
